Quilts by Anne H - Africa and In My Garden

Well six days, four of them spent at the hospital and I think we've finally got my Mom sorted out with a cast that is comfortable and that she can manage. The broke the right humerus (upper arm bone) and the healing process will be long and painful (painful because she can't sew but is itching to work on something). It is good to have a goal to work towards and she has a sewing project set-up in front of her so that she knows what she will do the minute she is able!

This is Mom's most recent wall hanging. You may have see the trunk show of her works on my blog. If so you will know that she loves making quilts with an African theme.

Wall hanging for Mennonite Relief Quilt Auction by Anne H

This piece will go to Renske Helmut who is an applique artist par excellence. Renske co-ordinates the creation of quilts for the annual Mennonite Relief Quilt Auction. You can read about the auction on her blog. This year the theme of the quilt she is working on now is Africa and when Mom heard about this she wanted to create a piece to be included in the quilt. I love the lady on the left - the one with the shopping bag. I can just imagine it is loaded with heavy groceries and that she is toting it home. These wall hangings will all be assembled into one large quilt that will be auctioned. I can't wait to see the finished quilt!

The theme for Quilting Gallery's Show and Tell this weekend is embroidery and one of my Mom's pieces is entered. It is titled "In My Garden". I've been showing you close-ups of the embroidery and this is the quilt that was entered. If you would like to vote for Mom's quilt you can do so here!

In My Garden by Anne H

It is hard to pick my favourite embroideries in the quilt but I do like the chickadee and pansies!

And I also am very fond of these embroideries!

Hopefully life will settle down and little and I can get back to posting information that you will find helpful and interesting!

Until I post again, happy sewing!

  1. Sending more healing vibes to your mum all over the big pond. I just stopped by the Quilting Gallery to leave my vote for 'In my Garden' and your mum is currently in the lead! :D

It's a stunning quilt and so beautiful. And the details on her Africa quilts are divine. Am curious to see the whole quilt once the relief has put them together.

    All the best! xx

I am praying for her to heal quickly without pain. Give her a hug for me and tell her I admire her talent. I too hope she wins on QG this week her work is so very deserving.
