Getting it together - the Lazy Punk reveal

I spent the day cutting the sashing and cornerstones and then sewing them to the blocks. I am pleased to tell you the blocks are now a quilt top! It will finish at 71" square.

The skeleton toile is in the setting triangles and it is the perfect finish for the quilt. I am so pleased with how it turned out! I've got some lovely fabric for the backing. It is a cotton linen blend and is very neutral which is perfect for the recipient of this quilt.

I know that the quilt will be going in the washing machine and dryer so I'm going to wash a chunk of this fabric in hot water and then throw it in the dryer to see how it fares. If there is any shrinkage the backing will have to be washed and pressed before I use it. I sure hope not as it has nice body and I would hate to loose that in the wash. I got the fabric on the clearance shelf at Fabricland for $3/metre! What a great deal it was!

When making Lazy Punk there was a slight miscalculation! I had it in my mind that I needed 42 blocks but in fact I needed 41 so there was one leftover. Look at this poor lonely block! I hate to just toss in in the orphan block pile but what's a quilter to do? I am seriously considering making another 40 blocks to keep this one company. All those in favour raise your hands! Honestly, the cutting and glue basting was so quick and painless and the hand appliquéing is a great project for when I am out and about.

The weather has cooled off and the orange salvia like me is very happy about this change!

Until I post again, happy sewing!

  1. It looks Really Good, Karen! Your fabric choices were perfect, a nice variety but still disciplined. You've definitely given me some ideas here!

Just put the orphan block on the back and do something new, would be my thought. Or at most, a pillow cover.

    1. Thanks Monica! I had considered making a pillow but these blocks are just so much fun to make. I think I'll wait to quilt Lazy Punk before I decide whether to make more blocks!

  2. I am in favour of a new quilt to keep that lonely block in good company.
The finished quilt top looks so modern, fun and full of life.

    1. I do like this quilt because it looks modern but it also has an old timey feel about it. And the blocks are so exciting and they have loads of movement which is something that appeals to me greatly!

  3. You are so fast and this is a fantastic looking quilt. Love everything about it. Make another one you can do it or a lap size would be great.
We sold our house and downsizing so you can imagine what I have been doing in the last three weeks. We bought a condo and then got our two adult kids moved and got our house ready to sell and it sold in 6 hours. All since Sept. 13th. So no stitching only purging lol. Bunny

    1. Thanks Bunny! I really am tempted to make more blocks because they are fast and portable the way I've been doing them. I could start a Lazy Punk stash so when I need to make a quilt for someone the blocks would be there waiting to be turned into something special!
Moving and downsizing is not fun!
