Soupcon inspiration and hexagon techniques

For those of you aren't part of the Soupcon FLICKR Group I thought I would share a few of the center hexagon blocks that have been posted.

The first block was made by Clare. The colours are rich and warm and it reminds me of a piece of tapestry or a paisley pashmina. Clare decided not to use English paper piecing because she is "supremely lazy and just wants to cut and sew"! She didn't want to fuss with basting so she made her star using a method described in an online tutorial. Clare said it was very helpful and she used it to make her block. If you are interested you will find the tutorial here.

Bunny over at The Creative Hare  has made two stunning blocks. She says she isn't a hexie girl but you would never know it from these two blocks. They are ready to be stitched together. Isn't the dark background dramatic? I believe that Bunny used my paperless English paper piecing method to make these patches but I could be wrong! I love the circles in the first star - they will be a great motif that can be repeated throughout the quilt!

This one is so elegant! The center reminds me of the lattice work you see in Renaissance paintings!

Finally I want to share this dreamy little number from Deborah at The Tooth Fairy Quilter! If you like old fashioned embroidery with bits of applique be sure to check out the patterns she is posting on her blog. They are adorable and would be wonderful worked in redwork! Back to Deb's star! I love the movement of the flowers swirling around the center. This one reminds me of an old teacup in my collection. It is a black background with peonies and it was made in occupied Japan. Very delicate but dramatic at the same time, just like Deborah's block!

Yesterday there was an interesting hexagon post on She Can Quilt. Aylin of Aylin-Nilya was the guest blogger. Grab a coffee or a tea because it is a long post that has everything from soup to nuts! Aylin describes the basic of EPP and then moves on to discuss design ideas. This post is sure to excite the imagination!

There's always more than one way to do things. I've described my methods in my free booklets and posts but there is always more than one way! You should consider giving different methods a try and then use the method that works best for you or best for the project you are working on!

It's a short post today but I'm hoping you feel inspired! Until I post again, happy sewing!
