The Evolution of Soupcon Blocks Made by Readers

Are you here for the GROW YOUR BLOG party and my giveaway? If so, go here to enter my draw for a hardcover needle book!

I am so impressed with what you are all doing with my Soupcon QAL pattern. When you look at evolution of each block from Step 1 to Step 3 is is really exciting and inspiriting! Let me show you what I mean!

Clare made two blocks. The first is made with some fabric that is very precious to her and which she uses sparingly. Step 1 is a really lovely block but compare it to where it is at Step 3. Stunning!

Here is Clare's second block. It goes from WOWIE to KAZOWIE in three steps! If you haven't already guessed she is a very talented fibre artist and you can see more of Clare's work on her Facebook page. Clare tells me you don't have to be on Facebook to view her page!

Let's take a look at Sheila's block. It started out pretty and just keeps getting prettier and prettier! I hope this helps you think about ways to take your quilt making to another level!

Deb's block just keeps getting prettier too! Do you get the feeling Deb is an orchid girl? It is a real celebration of the colour and oh so pretty!

Happy Appliquer's block was very lovely and it would have been gorgeous on its own or it a quilt. But you add a little bit of simple embroidery and a border and it is really something very special.

Another example of a beautiful stand-alone block that is transformed into something special is Stitcin Witch's block. Fussy cuts, embroidery and borders make for another great entry!

A few more blocks have been posted. Brigitte68 has made two and both are at Step 2. I can't wait to see where she goes with her blocks!

Silverrabbit6 has cut out and basted more blocks! Here you can see one set of modified hexagons arranged three different ways. Which do you like best? It is hard to decide, that's for sure!

And here is Silverrabbit6's second block. Another wonderful example of a simple block with oodles of opportunities for embellishments!

This is Kel @AlwaysAppliques block. What a lovely combination of print, embroidery and applique!

Sallysnderson585 posted this picture. I love the prints and my guess is that the block is not reading true colours in the picture.  I couldn't find any pre-Step 3 photos to share. It looks like the star is made with smaller hexagons. The extra space is a great backdrop to showcase lovely quilting!

And the last embellished block that I have to show you was made by GraceEr. Grace told me she received this lovely fabric through a swap and she wanted to do something special to showcase the print. I think this is very special! Look at all the lovely little embroidered roses!

If you want to join in the fun there's no sign up. You can see the instructions for Part 1 here, Part 2 here and Part 3 here. Part 4 will be released on February 14th and after that there are two more parts and we are done the wall hanging. But if you want to make a quilt you will be able to carry on and I'll have some suggestions about how to do that!

I've been busy working on my next QAL pattern. If you want to make a hexagon quilt inspired by antique quilts this just might be the one for you! Stay tuned for more details in a future post!

Until I post again, happy sewing!

    1. I hope people will visit your blog to see your work. It is gorgeous!

As for the notification I'm not sure how that works (I certainly don't have to do anything). When it works it is great and when it doesn't it is frustrating. Sewing machines are so much easier to understand!
