Hex-citement!

I'm so excited because I received a lovely gift in the mail.....an English paper piecing travel kit! It was made for me by Bunny of The Creative Hare. The best part is that she used some of the techniques I've been sharing on my blog! The first technique she used was my foundation paper pieced English paper pieced star! This is one of the stars that I demonstrated in my tutorial.

Bunny's foundation paper pieced English paper pieced star is the exterior of the travel kit. Gold and blue is a glorious colour combination! Tucked inside the travel kit was an adorable little book of quilting quotations. There is a little silk ribbon bookmark with a little thimble at the end!

There is also a hexagon on the inside of the travel kit and for this one Bunny used my technique for drafting the modified hexagon (it is actually a pentagon) from Step 1 of my Soupcon Quilt Along. This is the flower I demonstrated in the tutorial in Step 1.

Here you can see Bunny's version of the flower on the travel kit. It forms a pocket where I can tuck papers or glue stick or maybe a spool of thread! There are an additional two pockets in the travel kit.

The travel kit pattern is from The Zen of Making and you can find the pattern here. I just love my hexagon travel kit and have already started using it for my next hexagon project. I'll share what I'm making in an upcoming post!

I've been busy quilting 81 The Giant Monstrosity. Here you can see some of the quilting on the back. I bought the backing fabric in the drapery section of my fabric store. It was 100" wide and 100% cotton. Perfect for my quilt! For now I am just outlining all of the hexagon flowers and stars. Once that is done I'll go back and quilt the background fabrics.

Until I post again, happy sewing!

  1. What an awesome little kit! So adorable. I am going to make up a kit to take on vacation next week so I can work on hexies. I'll plan on basting up a bunch for future blocks.
