Renske Helmuth collected the quilted blocks and assembled them into an unbelievable quilt that is called Threads of Africa. Any of you who have participated in a block swap will know that putting together blocks made by different quilt makers is no small feat! In any event Renske did an amazing job and this is the finished quilt. Renske received enough blocks to make a second quilt but unfortunately I don't have a picture of it. My Mom has two blocks in the second quilt.
Threads of Africa has been touring around Canada and last weekend it went up for auction. I hope you are sitting down when I tell you how much money it raised.....a whopping $42,000! It was purchased by Lens Mills. The quilt will be on display at each Lens Mills store and I am hoping that we will be able to take Mom to see the quilt (she has never seen it in person)!
I've been busy working on three quilt tops. Birds in the Loft is now a quilt top but I have to find a place big enough to hang it for picture taking. I also added a borders to Lozagons and Value Proposition. I'll take pictures and share what I've done very soon!

And I thought Renske only did miniatures. That is one amazing quilt. I look forward to seeing it at our local Lens Mill store.

ReplyDeleteI love the Threads of Africa Quilt. So glad it realized such a good dollar amount at auction. Congratulations to your mom. She did a lovely job of her block. Sounds like you have three awesome quilt tops finished. Do I sense some quilting in your future? Hope you are having a lovely weekend. It's Pocono's today (NASCAR) and I will be working on another Value Proposition Block! It is progressing well.

ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous quilt. Really glad it fetched 42,000 as it should. I was just reading in QN that a quilt charged only $388 for a quilt from a record album. The quilt was not your everyday quilt and should have been much higher.

You are right, a great job of putting different blocks together into one stunning quilt!! Congrats to Mom for getting added to this quilt & am happy she will get to see it. I imagine this has some of your quilting on it?? Really nice job all around.
