Crosscut - another hexagon variation

This is a quilt that I call Crosscut. It was a Northcott Challenge quilt that I made in 2006. It measures 24" x 27" and it loaded with embroidery, hand piecing and beading!

It is heavily embroidered with leaves and bugs and flowers! Here are a couple of close-up!



I've got to go out today but tomorrow I'll do a tutorial on how to embroider these leaves. There are very easy, fun and add pizzazz to a quilt! And they might just be another teaser for my 2014 QAL (quilt along)!

    so gorgeous! do you ever enter your quilts in juried shows, I know you would win ribbons-really love the beads and embroidery work

      Hi Kathy - I've never entered anything in a juried show. I've heard that the judges feedback can be at times less than positive and I worry that unfavourable comments might take some of the pleasure away from what I've done. I just like doing my thing and sharing with others if they are interested!

      Thanks! I can't tell you how much fun I had making it! I really get a kick out of starting a project and watching it evolve under my fingers. While I have a rough idea of what I want to do things change as I go along so the process is quite exciting for me!

    Thanks for joining HeLP for Hexie-aholics. Your quilt and all that embroidery are just gorgeous. The leaves are to die for! I love how you fussy cut the green to draw your eyes in to the middle.

      Thank you Sarah! I love your hexagons too! They are very different and I find that the way the colours are interconnected is fascinating!

    This is just divine. I was looking at those leaves, thinking ooh they look hard to do, then I read the magic words "I'll do a tutorial on how to embroider these leaves". I've got the hang of the french knots and my button hole wagon wheels are much better, but still not sure about my satin stitch, can you show some tips please?
