Who's a lucky girl?

This girl, that's who! Last night at my monthly quilt guild meeting I received some lovely gifts and they were totally unexpected and each one is wonderful!

 

The fist gift was from a friend who is preparing to move; she is getting rid of some bits and pieces and came across a little kit of papers and acrylic templates that she bought in Australia. The name of the quilt is Pie and Tarts and it is a quilt that I've admired for some time so I was thrilled to receive this little gift! The "quilts I would like to make" list just got a little longer.

But wait, there's more! Another friend was in Japan and she knows of my love of bugs.

She saw these fabrics and she said she just had to get them for me!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them both but the blue one just sings! Two lovely fat quarters to add to my Japanese collection but I just might cut into at least one of them today! The beetles would make a fabulous centre in a Lazy Punk block.

But wait, there's even more! In addition to the fat quarters she gave me a wonderful book "Thimbles and Sewing Implements". There are thimbles, sewing cases, pincushions, darners, sewing machines, needle threaders and all sorts!

This picture caught my attention. The caption reads "brass thimbles found at an Indian burial ground fifteen miles from the site of General Custer's battle at Little Big Horn".

What immediately came to mind was how did do you use an arrowhead as a thimble. I guess the arrowhead was just added for interest, not unlike the bugs and grasshoppers I sneak into my quilts or my photographs.

I think maybe this book will look very nice in a curio cabinet with some of my sewing tchotchke's including this thimble a friend brought back from the Red Dog Saloon in Juneau, Alaska!

And just when you thought I was done I have one more thing to show! We have a lending library at the Guild. It is self funding and funds are raised by selling raffle tickets for fat quarters! Guess who won a pack of three FQs? The lucky girl, me!

Aren't they fun? I sure think so!

So here is the haul!

The yellow fabric with the cherries will be the backing for my quilt Picadilly to the Nines.  I had promised a pattern for this one and I haven't forgotten. As time permits I have been working on it!

 

Well Lazy Punk has not been touched for a couple of days. Once I finish a few tasks my plan is to get back to quilting it. Fingers crossed I make good progress.
